February 29, 2012 Michigan exit poll results
1. Despite all the talk about how Santorum would run poorly among women, he ran just as well among women as among men (38%). Why? I suspect that women who are liberal on social issues either (a) don’t vote based on those issues or (b) don’t vote in Republican primaries anymore.
2. Among actual Republicans Romney beat Santorum 48-37. By contrast, Santorum beat Romney among Dems 53-18. Lesson: without Democrats coming in to sabotage the GOP, it wouldn’t have even been close.
3. Despite all the claptrap about Catholics supporting right-wingers, Romney carried the Catholic vote and lost the Protestant vote. Lesson: a hard-right candidate will not get the Catholic vote in November.
