April 4, 2012 the most interesting thing about the Wisconsin exit polls
Romney clobbered Santorum among people who “strongly approve” of the Tea Party, 50-38. People who “strongly oppose” the Tea Party (presumably Democratic crossovers) voted 2-1 for Santorum.
Another way of looking at the numbers: Santorum tied with Romney among “very conservative” voters and almost carried “moderate or liberal” voters, but lost badly among moderate conservatives. (He did, however, carry evangelical Christians). Data here.
So Santorum’s coalition is now down to Democratic saboteurs and religious conservatives- not a great place to be in going into Pennsylvania, which as I recall does not have an open primary. If he hasn’t withdrawn by the time of the Pennsylvania primary, Pennsylvania might end it for him.
